New Jersey, New York and Connecticut

From the New Castle, DE Elks Lodge, we headed north-east with the plan being to route around major traffic areas near NJ and NY. Well ... we missed a critical exit due to heavy traffic and ... things just got worse. Once on the NJ Turnpike we couldn't find a way off that didn't sound a low-bridge alarm on the RV-GPS. There were tunnels, bridges, impossible E-ZPass lanes (our's didn't work), exits onto NJ or NY city streets (really bad), and heavy traffic.

Traffic got even worse, with construction zones in full-on "let's block a couple lanes" mode, and navigating became intense with narrow lanes literally putting my mirrors 8-inches from trucks on either side. A few times I simply eased over the line if a car was on either side, so my mirror would clear on the opposite side. This took INTENSE concentration! A few pictures follow ... pay attention to the lane sizes relative to the vehicles within.

When Louise didn't have her eyes closed, praying, she managed to get a few good pictures of the New York skyline ... you can pick out the Empire State building if you look closely.

Well, traffic finally thinned and we carried on to Mystic, CT where we planned 3 to 4 full days of sightseeing, all to be posted in the next installment. Stay tuned ...

  1. That must have been so stressful! That NY traffic is the worst. Glad you made it through and now on to some beautiful places.
