We're making good time now, 300 to 400 miles per day headed towards Billings, MT. There really isn't a whole lot to see as you cross the plains states, except those wheat, soy bean and corn fields. Impressive! We did pass through a corner of Minnesota, but too far from by buddy Mike's hometown of Moorehead to pay his hold high school a visit.
Last night we camped in Sioux Falls at a KOA, leaving early for a little town called Presho, SD, population 600 and something. The campground is spacious, and FHU for about $45 with GoodSammy discount. I'll put up a few pix from the road that Louise took. We tried to find the "Corn Palace", as advertised by billboards along the highway, but leaving the highway with a 34-foot RV towing a vehicle limits how much exploring you can do; we never found it, so we moved on.
The following pix is of our campground at the KOA, and another interesting tanker truck with a sign on the back ... We are still trying to figure out what it means!
Okay, I'll let you think about that one for a while. A few pix of the trip and current campsite in SD.
It was a beautiful, blustery day in SD today, low-80's with a nice breeze. We did find fields of sun flowers on both sides of Hwy90 West, as far as you can see in all directions, and one farmer harvesting wheat into a large towable trailer, likely headed for one of the big silos we keep passing. Oh, and the Wall Drug ads are just starting to pop up along the way ... another great place to stop and poke around, but think we will need to bypass it this trip.
A few pix from the road ...
Yes, sun flowers as far as you can see. The scenery changed dramatically as soon as we crossed the Missouri river, now with rolling hills and different crops, like the sun flowers. A beautiful day to be on the road.
We are expecting rain tomorrow, about a 70% chance, so I'm thinking we will be breaking camp in the rain. We want to get an early start tomorrow for a big push to Billings to visit Sister Joyce and our Great Niece and Nephew ... looking forward to it!
Looking at a 500-mile day tomorrow to stay on track. If I get tired we'll just pull over and reschedule the next stop. We don't book more than one day in advance so we can remain flexible.
More to come ...
