The trip from Sandusky to our current stop in Joliet, Illinois was uneventful, but full of picture-postcard scenes of life in America. The road was a mixture of good and bad, depending on how much was being spent on road repair or refurbishment. We passed through portions of Indiana and along the shore of Lake Michigan, only getting into traffic around the outskirts of Chicago. It was a picture-perfect day for travel, with temp in the mid-70's.
A most bizarre part of the trip was a bridge across a mining excavation that spanned both sides of the highway, like a giant gorge. We wondered how well the bridge footings had been placed? The pix below is of the side of the excavation to our right ... the left side was about the same, only farther away from the freeway over-crossing.
A few pictures of the trip yesterday follow:
Passing through Elkhart we saw RV manufacturers stacked side-by-side along the freeway, both sides, with parking lots full of 5th wheels, bumper-pulls and Class-A motorhomes ready to ship to dealers across America. Elkhart is one of the primary places RVs of all types are built, and also home to the RV Hall of Fame which looked closed as we drove by; I guess some things are not yet back to normal.
Your getting closer!
