We are currently on the Atlantic coast in Mystic, Connecticut for a few days, but before I post anything from Mystic (to follow this post), I wanted to put up a few comments (and pix) from the last few days. We spent one day in New Castle, Delaware, and since most things were COVID-closed, mostly driving around taking pictures.
New Castle, DE was established in 1651. Although there is an Old Town section, most things have been re-built. Actually, the entire area was not too touristy either. Longwood Gardens, the main reason for stopping here, was closed due to a vehicle accident, the day before our arrival, that damaged part of the visitor center ... So, they decided to close the entire botanical gardens, to our disappointment.
But, we found an old house (also closed to touring) along the Delaware river that had a beautiful backyard garden with paths and interesting foliage ... The gate was open, no body around, so we did that instead.
Some streets were very narrow in residential areas due to the age of the town, I suppose (cobblestones and brick sidewalks on some streets), but the architecture was beautifully starting to look New England style.
A few pictures of the Delaware River and areas around the park there, impeccably maintained and free of trash or undesirable occupants.
Weez's Deli was closed, too. But, couldn't pass up taking a picture of the sign. Okay, Delaware now done and on the road through parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the most terrifying journey through a part of New York. I'll post a few comments and pix in the next installment.
Oh, to bad about Longwood Gardens, one of my favorite places! But you found some incredible sights in Jersey so good for you.
