Mystic, Connecticut Day-1

After a well-needed rest (and at least one bottle of wine) we mapped out the first day in Mystic. This is a "must see" travel stop and it was challenging to plan a day where we weren't backtracking our destinations. So, first day we decided to visit the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center (say that fast even once!).

The Nature Center was set around a small pond with well-marked paths cut through the woods, and wooden walk-ways where seasonal water might cause problems. Displays were of excellent quality and staff was friendly and helpful.

School-aged kids were in attendance at a summer camp and other youth programs, but you couldn't tell they were there with all the activities they were involved in. A tree going up the center of the stairway in the Visitor Center contained hidden creatures you had to look for ... quite an ingenious puzzle of sorts!

A table in the back of the building contained specimens in progress of restoration for display. There were also live raptors, as we found at another conservatory, in progress of healing in preparation for return to the wild.

Displays were both interesting and educational with great descriptions of the subject being viewed. This was a great first stop in Mystic, CT.

Next stop ... Mystic Seaport Village and Museum.
