Montana to Idaho-2nd Pass

It was time to leave Montana, but we simply couldn't leave without a 2nd trip to Stella's Kitchen and Bakery to select a few treats for the road. We had been there for breakfast, but that glass case full of tasty biscotti couldn't be passed up again.

Leaving Montana behind, we headed West on Hwy 90, this time passing through the northern part of Idaho towards Coeur d'alene. The landscape began to change from beautiful, tree-covered mountains to valleys with wide streams or reservoirs.

But wait! A billboard on the highway caught our eye ... "Next exit. The best huckleberry shakes in Montana". The stop was St. Regis, a must-do-visit if you come this way. Not only were the shakes excellent, the gift shop was an incredible display of reasonably-priced collectables, jewelry (lots of it!), and a bar and restaurant with arguably the best hamburgers in Montana ... so the sign said? Yes, even a trout aquarium with 7 or 8-pound trout ... eyeing my huckleberry shake.

This sign welcomed us to northern Idaho ... and a quick trip through the narrow part of the state ... more mountains and valleys.

Next stop, Spokane, Washington for one night. So, stay tuned ...
