It was a quick trip through the mountains and curves of Northern Idaho, and the big 8.1L V8 in the bus drank heavily from the gas tank as we climbed to the summit ... Next stop, Spokane, Washington with an overnight planned at fairly new Northern Quest RV Resort (and casino).
Yes, this was indeed a "resort" with all the trimmings. Asphalt roads, asphalt, level RV sites, cabins, and even a required gate code to get back in if you stayed to long at the casino. You could even rent a golf card to get around.
We really hadn't planned any activities at this camp spot, but on the way to wash the crud off the car, we found an historic diner that was begging us to come back in the morning for breakfast. Established in 1906, this restored and updated railroad car is now Frank's Diner and THE spot for a yummy breakfast and super service.
But, before I put the pictures up, this data sheet will give you and idea and some background and appreciation for this special place.
After a nice breakfast, it was back to the RV Resort to break camp and head the bus towards our next overnight in Ellensburg, WA. The trip from Spokane to Ellensburg was not much more than green field after field of potatoes, beans, feed corn, wheat, peas, and alfalfa. How did we know this? The farmers had been kind enough to place signs along the highway in front of their crop ... We think this should be a state law everywhere!
Anyway, we crossed Moses Lake and the Columbia River, which looked like a fine place to jet ski or fish ... and suddenly, all those fields of green turned to rolling hills of brown as we approached Ellensburg.
So, tomorrow we'll be at the coast and getting ready to tour Vancouver Island, Butchart Gardens and much more. What an adventure! Stay tuned ...
