Today we visited Richmond and surrounding communities with our new friends from Richmond, Joe and Jeanne. Before and after a nice lunch at a local restaurant, we visited Carytown, downtown Richmond, and Ashland, all with points of interest not found elsewhere on our trip. The houses and surrounding landscaping were ... well, story-book and magical!
The architecture of local houses was especially interesting. Downtown Ashland had train tracks up the middle of the street, with shops and restaurants lining both sides of the track. We imagined sitting outside in one of the cafes or restaurants and watching it go by.
But first, a few pictures of the trip up from Virginia Beach, across the causeway and through the tunnel. There were (4) aircraft carriers in port at Newport News ... really breathtaking. The first pix is of a shot down one of the channels leading out to the Chesapeake Bay. What a lifestyle that must be.
Now a few pictures of the other sights today ... hard to capture some in a picture. The first is off the bridge over the James River.
A great day to be in Virginia. Tomorrow we pay a visit to Mt. Vernon to say hello to President George Washington. More to come...
