Pelham, AL

Next we headed for the Alabama Wild Life Center in Pelham, AL. Another very unique place to visit, Oak Mountain State park has created a raptor zoo of sorts, set in the forest and suspended above-ground some 30-feet into the trees. Called the Treetop Nature Trail, this very well-built suspended walkway passes from cage to cage where rescued raptors are happily residing. Each has a history attached to the side of their very large cage with an explanation of how the bird became a permanent resident. Most have been hit by cars or so damaged they can no longer exist by themselves in the wild.

Owls, hawks, and vultures, oh my! The pictures do not come close to doing this place justice ... what a work of love has been created for these otherwise doomed birds.

Another magical and quiet place to walk in the woods.
